With The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s massive open world, there are a ton of tricks, glitches, and exploits that players have discovered to make gameplay more interesting. By using the game’s existing Stasis mechanics in new and likely unintended ways, BOTW players have found clever techniques to explore, fight enemies, and have some extra fun.

The Stasis rune in BOTW is one of four runes that the player must unlock on the Grand Plateau by completing each of the Plateau’s Shrines. Players can use this rune to freeze objects and use the game’s physics to send those objects flying by hitting them with weapons or arrows. It can also be upgraded to Stasis+ at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, which will allow Link to freeze enemies as well.

Of the four runes Link unlocks in Breath of the Wild, the Stasis rune is one of the more versatile. With its ability to make time stand still, players have discovered a number of different tricks that make BOTW gameplay quicker and easier – or just more entertaining.

BOTW’s Stasis Launch Trick Sends Objects Flying

One of the more popular Stasis rune tricks in BOTW is the Stasis Launch, which allows players to fly high in the air and travel faster, or explore areas that might be harder to reach otherwise. By freezing an object such as a boulder, tree, or rock slab, players can charge up the object’s trajectory by hitting it with a weapon or arrows, then climb aboard just before the timer runs out. Players can either grab onto the object before it goes airborne, or combine this trick with a technique like the bullet time bounce to fly even farther.

BOTW’s Stasis Trick – Sink Dormant Guardians Using Stasis+

Once the Stasis rune has been upgraded to Stasis+, players can freeze BOTW enemies with the rune, including Guardians. Freezing a dormant Guardian with the rune will cause it to sink directly into the ground once the Stasis timer runs out. It’s important to note, however, that this only works on dormant Guardians with legs. Guardians that are partially buried will be unaffected by this glitch, although Stasis+ is a good technique for taking them out by preventing them from firing lasers. This technique will not spawn any Guardian parts when the Guardians are defeated, but it’s useful for players trying to get by quickly.

A BOTW Stasis Trick Can Knock Horseback Enemies Off Their Mounts

Freezing enemies on horseback will cause the horse to run out from underneath them, throwing the enemy to the ground once the Stasis timer runs out. This gives players the opportunity to sneakstrike them as well – or defeat them by attacking before the timer runs out. It’s also a quick way to get a horse in BOTW as horses rescued from Bokoblins will not buck Link off.

Defeat Blight Bosses With This Stasis+ Trick In BOTW

This trick, discovered by u/Paradox_Guardian on Reddit, allows Link to defeat Ganon’s Blight bosses in BOTW before they’re able to enter their second phase. By freezing the boss with Stasis+ and entering Bullet Time by firing arrows in midair, the player can get the Blight down to less than half health before its second phase is able to trigger. Once the Stasis timer runs out, it registers all of the damage at once, glitching it straight into its death cutscene rather than its second phase.

Reset Stasis Cooldown With This BOTW Stasis Trick

There are a couple of different ways that players can reset the cooldown of the Stasis rune by performing certain actions while the timer is counting down. Link can rest at a campfire, view one of BOTW‘s many Memories, or pick up a new object that hasn’t been added to the inventory before in order to reset the rune, allowing it to be used again before it would otherwise have a chance to reload. This gives players the ability to Stasis Launch multiple times in a row – as long as they’re able to stay on whatever object they’re launching, which makes large stone slabs and metal doors the best candidates for this Breath of the Wild Stasis trick.
