Proposals are a major life event for some people in real life. They’re nerve-wracking and stressful, but once the question is asked and a “yes” is given, everything feels right. While people don’t always get to witness their loved ones getting proposed to, television audiences often do get the chance to witness their favorite characters get down on one knee and ask those four words: “will you marry me?”

And just like in real life, sitcom proposals don’t always go according to plan. From cold feet and bad weather to never knowing when the time the right, sitcom proposals have seen and done it all. Despite all the obstacles they encounter, in the end, it’s always the perfect proposal.

10 Leslie & Ben – Parks & Recreation

Leslie and Ben had a rocky relationship in the early seasons of the iconic workplace sitcom, Parks and Recreation. Slowly but surely, Leslie warmed up to Ben and even fell in love with the state auditor who originally came to Pawnee to crush the government’s budget. There is no denying that these two become the popular couple on the show, and as such, they had one of the best proposals of all time.

After working on a campaign in Washington, Ben is finally set to return to Pawnee and move into a new house with Leslie. However, things take a turn when Ben announces that he has been offered a job on a new campaign. Disappointed, Leslie goes to cancel her lease on the new house, only for Ben to show up and propose to her.

9 David & Patrick – Schitt’s Creek

Schitt’s Creek was never that concerned with romantic relationships in earlier seasons, but when Patrick came to town, all of that changed. Before long, David and Patrick went from business partners to a perfect couple fans loved to ship.

As their relationship blossomed, it became clear that David and Patrick were perfect for each other because they constantly pushed each other and forced each other out of their comfort zones. This is exactly what Patrick did when he made David go on a hike with him before proposing. As if the actual proposal wasn’t cute enough, Patrick’s choice in rings for David really sealed the deal.

8 Michael & Holly – The Office

Michael Scott doesn’t have the best history when it comes to women. He doesn’t always think things through and while he means well, he often ends up being offensive. However, Michael really shows his maturity and true self when he plans his proposal for Holly.

Michael decides the perfect place to ask Holly to marry him is the office since that’s where they met. With a little help from his employees, Michael plans the most romantic proposal ever, leading Holly into her former office, which he has decorated with dozens of candles. The moment is so sweet that not even the fire sprinklers going off can ruin the moment.

7 Cory & Topanga – Boy Meets World

When it comes to teen shows, no couple is as iconic as Cory and Topanga were on the 90s hit sitcom, Boy Meets World. These two seriously grew up with each other and fell in love with each other before either one really knew what love was.

Everyone knows Cory is the more emotional and sentimental one of the two, which is why it’s so cute that Topanga is the one to ask Cory to marry her during their high school graduation ceremony. While Cory doesn’t immediately say yes, he does eventually accept the proposal and the rest is history.

Jake and Amy have gone down in history as one of the cutest and most iconic TV couples of all time. Though these two didn’t always get along, they end up realizing they’re more alike than they originally let on.

Over the years, fans witnessed countless fake proposals, but thankfully, the real one was worth the wait. In true Jake fashion, he mixed sentimentality with humor by telling Amy, “I love how smart you are. I love how beautiful you are. I love your face and I love your butt.”

5 Monica & Chandler – Friends

Ross and Rachel might be the most talked-about couple on Friends, but everyone knows that’s just because they were chaotic and oftentimes toxic. The true best relationship was Monica and Chandler and even their proposal is proof of how made for each other these two are.

After several failed attempts of popping the question to Monica, Chandler is about to give up. Chandler walks into the apartment to find Monica has decorated it with candles and flowers. She gets down on one knee to propose but is overcome with emotion. Chandler swoops in and saves the day, finally getting to ask the question he’d been dying to ask all along.

4 Cece & Schmidt – New Girl

Schmidt may have been a player, but the moment he locked eyes on Cece, he knew that she was the one. Though their relationship wasn’t always easy, he proved time and time again that he would always be there for her through the good and the bad.

Newly single, Schmidt is determined to move on from his past only to learn that Cece is still in love with him. Determined not to blow this, he attempts to race to Cece’s apartment, only to open the door to the loft to find her standing there. Schmidt wastes no time getting down on one knee and proposing to her with the $5 bill he was forced (by her) to put in the douchebag jar when they first met. Though he didn’t propose with a ring, the proposal has gone down as one of the most romantic moments in New Girl history.

3 Jim & Pam – The Office

Jim and Pam were the ultimate will-they won’t-they couple that kept fans tuning in week after week to The Office. Everyone knew they would get together, it was just a matter of when.

Thankfully, the moment finally came for these two to seal the deal in season five and it did not disappoint. As Pam set off to New York City to start a new job, Jim couldn’t stand the fact that she was leaving without them being engaged. So, Jim chased after her, meeting Pam at a gas station where he eventually popped the question in the pouring rain.

2 Steve & DJ – Fuller House

Back in the 90s, DJ and Steve were one of the most iconic teen couples of all time. The two had a lot of memorable moments together on Full House and Steve even pulled off one of the most romantic gestures ever by showing up to take her to her senior prom when they weren’t even dating.

When Fuller House debuted on Netflix, fans were shocked to learn that DJ and Steve never ended up together. Thankfully, the show ended up righting that wrong and in season 5, Steve proposes to his high school sweetheart with an epic flashmob.

1 Mitch & Cam – Modern Family

There is no denying that Mitch and Cam were a match made in heaven, but when the series first started, these two weren’t actually married. Of course, that had to do with the fact that same-sex marriage wasn’t legal yet. Fast forward five seasons and same-sex marriage was legalized in California and these two were finally able to get married.

In true Mitch and Cam fashion, they make things a bit more difficult for themselves. Both of these men want to be the ones to propose, so when Mitch realizes Cam is about to propose at dinner, he makes up an excuse to leave. In the end, Cam and Mitch both get their chance to propose when they both kneel to change a flat tire and the words just fall out. The scene is sweet and heartfelt and one of the most romantic moments on Modern Family.
