As COVID-19 continues to impact the movie industry, several studios are looking for options to release the latest movies to the public. With theaters limiting their showtimes with only a few moviegoers returning to theaters, Warner Bros. may have found the perfect solution to show the newest movies, both in theaters and at home.

With Wonder Woman 1984 set to release on December 25 in both theaters and on HBO Max, Warner Bros. announced that all of their 2021 movies would also follow the same release model. This new plan will have these films released both in theaters and on HBO Max streaming simultaneously. This decision allows movie watchers the option to watch the latest movies in theaters if possible or watch it at the comfort of their homes. Of those 17 movies releasing in this model, ten are some of the most anticipated to release in 2021.

10  Tom & Jerry (March 5, 2021)

No matter what generation, everyone loves to watch the complicated rivalry between the famous cat and mouse duo, Tom and Jerry. Both protagonists have gone on several adventures together, making for quality television content since the 1940s. Now, this animated comedy show will make it to the big screens with Tom & Jerry.

Tom and Jerry will reignite their feud as both characters wind up encountering each other at an upcoming wedding in New York. A hotel employee hires Tom to catch Jerry, leading to even more slapstick comedy for viewers to watch at home and in theaters. Tom & Jerry will release on March 5, 2021.

9 The Many Saints Of Newark (March 12, 2021)

The Sopranos is one of the best television shows of all-time. Though the show ended in 2007 after six seasons, this crime drama will venture onto the big screen as a prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark.

With an ensemble cast including Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, and Leslie Odom Jr., Michael Gandolfini will play the role of Tony Soprano during his early years as a mobster. Gandolfini is also the son of the late actor James Gandolfini, who originally played the character in the television show. The movie will release on March 12, 2021.

8 Mortal Kombat (April 16, 2021)

With Simon McQuoid as the director and James Wan as one of the producers, they will show their take with a rebooted movie adaptation of the martial arts video game. Audiences will watch the tournaments of fantasy martial arts led by a competitor, Liu Kang, joining the realm in 2021’s Mortal Kombat.

Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, and Ludi Lin are just a few actors of the ensemble cast to be involved in the project. Initially supposed to release on January 21 of next year, Mortal Kombat will release on April 16, 2021.

7 Godzilla Vs. Kong (May 21, 2021)

Fans watched Godzilla in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and saw Kong in Kong: Skull Island. Both monsters have proven themselves to be formidable, but who exactly is the strongest and most powerful between the two creatures? Viewers will have the answers to this as they are excited to finally see the two fight against each other in 2021 with Godzilla vs. Kong.

The last mashup of this fight once took place in a 1962 movie King Kong vs. Godzilla, with Kong reigned as the winner. Now, a rematch is in stores for the present day. As audiences wait for this battle, they will also see humans in between as they also attempt to save themselves on Earth. Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, and Julian Dennison, Godzilla vs. Kong will make its way to the screen on May 21, 2021.

6 The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4, 2021)

As The Conjuring universe continues to expand, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprise their roles as paranormal investigators and couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren, as they once again solve another supernatural case in the early 1980s. Whereas previous movies took place in a haunted house, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will uncover the murder trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson.

To make matters complicated, they have to figure out whether the murder was a result of demonic possession to claim innocence for the defendant. Viewers will have the chance to watch the outcome of this paranormal case on June 4, 2021.

5 In The Heights (June 18, 2021)

Based on the 2007 Broadway musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes used their musical talents and writing chops, respectively, to bring a movie adaptation of In the Heights.

Taking place in Washington Heights, a bodega owner, Usnavi, contemplates moving back to the Dominican Republic and finding a new life. Also, this movie will narrate the journey of the people within the block as they hope to fulfill their dreams in New York. With a stellar cast consisting of Anthony Ramos, Melissa Barrera, and Corey Hawkins, the musical will release on June 18, 2021.

4 Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 16, 2021)

The 1996 movie Space Jam received a lot of popularity during its release, where Michael Jordan worked with the characters of Looney Tunes to win a basketball match. Now, a sequel is in store, with Lebron James taking center stage.

James will work together with Bugs Bunny to win a basketball game as an attempt to save his son Bronny against Al-G, played by Don Cheadle. After waiting for two decades, fans will not have to wait any longer as Space Jam: A New Legacy will make its way to the big screen on July 16, 2021.

3 The Suicide Squad (August 6, 2021)

Despite less than pleasant reviews by critics for 2016’s Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. hopes to redeem the DCEU with the sequel The Suicide Squad with the help of Guardians of the Galaxy director and comic book aficionado James Gunn to take full control.

In the upcoming sequel, both new and old convicted supervillains are sent on a mission by Task Force X to take down a prison and laboratory called Jotunheim. As the squad continues to grow with new faces like Pete Davidson, John Cena, and Idris Elba joining the cast, the sequel will also see a return of Margot Robbie and Joel Kinnaman as Harley Quinn and Col. Rick Flag, respectively. Viewers can watch the newest upcoming DCEU movie on August 6, 2021.

2 Dune (October 1, 2021)

Based on the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, Denis Villeneuve will bring forth his rendition of Dune to the big screen. In this sci-fi movie, Paul Atreides recruits the help of natives on the desert planet Arrakis. As they prepare for battle against the noble houses who betrayed Paul’s father, they hope to gain control of the planet and its most vital element known in the galaxy.

As if the complexity of the movie is not enough, Dune is packed with a star-studded cast featuring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, and Josh Brolin as just a few big names to list. Initially supposed to release on December 18, 2020, Dune will finally release in theaters and streaming on October 1, 2021.

1 The Matrix 4 (December 22, 2021)

After the movie franchise initially concluded its trilogy in 2003, viewers can once again watch the world of virtual reality with the upcoming and long-awaited sequel, The Matrix 4. Having been one of the creators and writers of the previous movies, Lana Wachowski will be the director in developing the fourth movie of the franchise.
