Adam Sandler is one of the most bankable movie stars of all time. He paved the way for big-name actors to jump on the streaming train, and he has even transitioned rather well into dramas, showing that there is very little that he can’t do. However, being one of the stars that audiences love but critics hate, the comedian has more than a few problematic jokes scattered throughout his movies.

When it comes to Sandler’s jokes, many may have been funny decades ago, but as the human race continues to learn and grow, as does Sandler himself, some of his gags haven’t aged well. Not only that, but there are even whole movies just a couple of years old that have already passed their expiry date in many ways.

10 Waterboy’s Accent

Waterboy is not only one of the best comedies from that era, but it’s also one of the best football movies of all time. However, being one of the earlier Adam Sandler movies in which the actor adopts a strange accent, it calls into question where that accent is from.

It isn’t a local dialect or a vernacular he’s adopted from his family, but it’s clearly a part of the developmental disability that the character has, and rewatching it is more cringeworthy than funny.

9 Off-Color Prison Jokes In The Longest Yard

The Longest Yard took a classic Burt Reynolds movie and turned it into a ridiculous commentary on racism whilst including a million off-color jokes. Though it is still hilarious and remains one of the best Chris Rock movies, not 10 minutes go by without there being a low-brow gay sex or prison rape joke, and it ruins the many genuinely funny moments that are in the movie.

8 Hitler Jokes In Little Nicky

With Little Nicky largely being based in hell and also being one of Adam Sandler’s earliest movies, the movie is the subject of some ludicrously immature jokes – the worst of which when Hitler appears in a maid’s outfit and has to choose a pineapple to be put where the sun doesn’t shine.

Apart from this over-the-top ridiculous moment, joking about Hitler is so touchy that even Seth Rogen was too scared to do it, and a scene involving Hitler in hell was cut from This Is The End.

7 Lady Lisa In Pixels

Pixels was one of the biggest box office bombs Sandler has ever seen, as the budget had ballooned to over $200 million by the time production was wrapped up. But it may have bombed due to its sketchy jokes, especially the whole Lady Lisa schtick.

Lady Lisa was nothing more than eye candy, as she shows up at the very end in a skimpy outfit, almost as a trophy for Ludlow, played by Josh Gad, and this is just one reason why it’s one of the worst movies of 2015.

6 Rape Jokes In That’s My Boy

As soon as That’s My Boy was released in theatres back in 2012, it was immediately scrutinized and people pointed fingers at Adam Sandler for going too far.

The whole narrative of the movie is based on a 13-year-old boy being raped by his teacher, which results in the birth of a child. The whole thing is supposedly meant to have audiences in tears with laughter, but it is one of the most embarrassing screenplays ever written.

5 His Way Of Picking Up Women In Just Go With It

Just Go With It is one of a few team-ups between Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and unfortunately, this is as good as it gets. In what is one of the worst jokes in any of his movies, Sandler’s character realizes that he can successfully pick up women by wearing a wedding ring and making them believe he’s married.

It’s a terrible blanket statement to make about women, but what makes it worse is that Sandler only becomes emotionally attracted to Aniston when he sees her in a bikini.

4 Working At Hooters In Big Daddy

Big Daddy is one of the funniest comedies starring Adam Sandler, and even though it was derided by critics, when it comes to Adam Sandler movies, many fans feel it’s as close to flawless as it can get.

However, it isn’t perfect, as there is a running gag about Hooters and how shameful it is to work there. That would never fly if the movie was made today, as it would totally be looked upon as slut-shaming, and many feel it’s the one dirty mark on an otherwise great movie.

3 Gay Stereotypes In Chuck And Larry

Pretending to be gay isn’t just a joke in I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, it’s the whole narrative. The joke is stretched so thin and it’s even made worse watching Adam Sandler and Kevin James awkwardly pretending to be lovers the whole time.

Whoever thought that one bad joke would make a great two-hour movie is delusional, but somehow the movie was a massive success at the box office.

2 The Hummus Cliche

In the ridiculous but hilarious You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, which was actually written by Judd Apatow, Adam Sandler plays the titular counterterrorist commando with dreams of being a hairstylist.

But there was another starring role in the film that doesn’t get enough credit: hummus. Hummus features in the movie just as much as Sandler, and though it seemed like a racist cliche from the first joke, the movie hammers down on the hummus gags hard.

1 Apache Culture

Being one of the worst Adam Sandler movies and one of many collaborations with Netflix, The Ridiculous 6 is hated by audiences as it makes fun of so many groups of people.

The movie makes racist and homophobic jokes, but more consistently, it features tons of one-liners and questionable narrative at the expense of Apache culture. Sandler’s character’s name is even White Knife, and it offended many Indigenous groups.
