There are plenty of movies released today that could be considered crossover movies, such as Godzilla vs. Kong, The Justice League, The Avengers. But whether it’s the MonsterVerse or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they are all essentially from the same franchise.

However, there are other movies that see completely unrelated properties come into contact with one another. Space Jam: A New Legacy is the newest example of this, as the movie features everyone (from Austin Powers to Mr. Freeze), but there are other glowing examples of franchise crossovers too. Between Jaws coming face to face with Batman, Disney princesses being all in one room, and video game villains grieving together, there are plenty of movies where franchises have crossed in extremely creative and animated ways.

9 The LEGO Batman Movie (2017)

The film isn’t just a fun kid’s movie, but LEGO Batman is actually a great Batman movie too. The movie perfectly balances parodying the character with paying homage to everything that’s great about the universe too. But it isn’t just about Batman, as there are so many other iconic heroes and villains that show up in the final act.

Possibly mixing franchises even more than its predecessor, The LEGO Batman Movie features not just character crossovers like Superman and Aquaman, but so many others outside of DC too. The final act brings in Voldemort from the Harry Potter series, the Daleks from Doctor Who, and even the shark from Jaws, to name a few. The crossovers were part of the reason why it was loved by critics almost as much as The LEGO Movie.

8 Pixels (2015)

With powerhouse director Chris Columbus at the helm and a high concept premise, on paper, Pixels sounds incredible. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case as it was negatively received by critics.

However, as disappointing as the movie was, audiences were still treated to some exciting video game crossovers. Pixels sees Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, and so many other classic arcade games come to life, keeping audiences thoroughly engaged with the screen.

7 Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is similar to the Space Jam series in more ways than one, and it in fact laid the groundwork for the way Space Jam mixed live-action and animation. The movie takes place in Hollywood, where humans and cartoons live in harmony, and it follows private investigator Eddie, who attempts to exonerate Roger after he has been framed for the murder a wealthy businessman.

However, not only was it a touchstone in filmmaking but it also saw franchises crossover too. Along with Roger Rabbit, Eddie found himself locking horns with the Looney Tunes on several occasions too. On top of that, Roger Rabbit features both Mickey and Bugs on screen together, which is one of only two times that has ever happened.

6 Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Just like Pixels, Wreck-It Ralph crosses over famous video game franchises. However, the difference is that the Disney movie pulls it off in such a flawless way. Critics and audiences couldn’t resist its charm as there are so many cameos from video game characters, including Street Fighter characters, Paperboy, and Frogger.

But the most ingenious scene in the whole movie is Bad-Anon, where villains of famous video games sit in a room together to discuss how much they hate the role they’ve been given. The antagonists in attendance include Bowser from the Mario series, Doctor Eggman from Sonic The Hedgehog, Mr. Bison from Street Fighter, and many others.

5 Rugrats Go Wild (2003)

Before fans were divided by the reboot, the Rugrats series had a strong run of movies, and the series went out with a bang for its third and final movie in so many different ways. For Rugrats Go Wild, Bruce Willis voices the dog Spike, and the movie also used “Odorama.”

However, the film’s biggest appeal, as the title hints at, is a crossover with another popular kids’ morning show, The Wild Thornberrys. The movie sees the Rugrats and their parents go on vacation, but they end up getting stranded on a deserted island after a boat trip. Luckily, they cross paths with the Thornberrys, who just happened to be on an expedition on the same island. But despite the crossover, critics thought each of the properties’ own movies were much better and more charming.

4 Wayne’s World (1992)

Wayne’s World is arguably the best movie based on a Saturday Night Live sketch. What makes it so great is the way it breaks the fourth wall, the over-the-top product placement, and the pop culture references. And in one scene, the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day shows up looking for John Connor.

The character is in the same outfit as he was in Judgement Day, and he’s played by the same actor, Robert Patrick. Though it might be unofficial, as no name was given to the character in the comedy, it’s still a fun crossover.

3 Ready Player One (2018)

Ready Player One is the most successful movie to crossover franchises of all time. Though it isn’t Steven Spielberg’s most critically acclaimed movie that he’s ever made, it grossed close to a massive $600 million at the worldwide box office.

The movie blends a whole bunch of franchises together to create one huge virtual playground, and it’s as close as fans will ever get to see these properties ever come to life. The movie’s success is mostly accredited to just how iconic these franchises are, as Back to the Future and the Iron Giant are thrown into the same universe, and seeing the titular giant run alongside the DeLorean is so thrilling.

2 Scooby Doo! & Batman: The Brave And The Bold (2018)

Scooby Doo! & Batman: The Brave And The Bold might not be epic in scope, and it may not be a critical darling either, but this team-up movie is certainly the most creative crossover.

Scoob and the rest of Mystery Incorporated lock horns with several villains in the caped crusader’s Rogue Gallery, including the Riddler, Two-Face, and even Clayface. And surprisingly enough, Batman and Scoob arguably make a better dynamic duo than him and Robin.

1 Ralph Breaks The Internet (2018)

As the first movie in the series was all about the sea of cameos that filled every frame of the runtime, Ralph Breaks The Internet is no different. Though the sequel isn’t as critically acclaimed as the original, it goes leaps and bounds further, as the cameo appearances and references aren’t limited to just video games.

This time, there are features from Disney princesses like Anna and Elsa, Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, and C-3P0 from Star Wars. Disney was taking full advantage of every movie studio they owned, dipping in to Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Marvel Studios to use their characters at will.
