Fans of 90 Day Fiancé recognized a familiar face on season 17 of American Idol — singer-songwriter Evelyn Cormier!

Evelyn, now aged 22, married her now-30-year-old Spanish husband David Vázquez Zermeño when she was only 18. The couple bonded over their Christian values, but struggled to decide where they wanted to live. Cormier wanted to stay in her hometown of Claremont, New Hampshire while Vázquez Zermeño hoped to move to a big city. Despite their differences, the couple decided to get married and their relationship was featured on season five of 90 Day Fiancé.

But Cormier isn’t just a reality TV star – she is also a singer-songwriter and has performed in her family band for many years. She even released music as a solo artist and auditioned for American Idol. Cormier competed in season 17 of the hit singing competition and finished in the Top 14, according to her page on American Idol Wiki. The then 19-year-old attended her initial audition in New York, where she sang “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak. “Is that a wedding ring? At 19?” asked judge Luke Bryan after Cormier’s performance. The judges were impressed by her unique husky voice and unanimously voted to give her a ticket to Hollywood. “Literally one of my favorite voices I’ve ever heard in my life,” Katy Perry said.

Cormier was eager to prove to fans, who may have only known her as a 90 Day Fiancé teen bride, that she was a serious musician. Cormier advanced to the Top 14, where she sang “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World. After a nationwide vote, she did not advance to the Top 10 round and sang “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas for the chance for the judges to save her from elimination. However, the judges decided not to save her. “Don’t take this, America’s vote, and let it start changing what you are,” said Luke Bryan after her final performance.

While Cormier filmed American Idol in Los Angeles, her husband remained at home in New Hampshire. Although some fans worried Cormier and Vázquez Zermeño had broken up due to their lack of couple photos on Instagram, the pair are still married today. In fact, they moved to Los Angeles in 2019 to support Cormier’s music and modeling careers. It looks like this 90 Day Fiancé couple is still going strong.
