Michael B. Jordan Fans Want Him to Star in Anime Space Jam Remake
Prepare for a slam dunk as Michael B. Jordan fans call for him to star in an anime remake of Space Jam.
The Black Panther star is something of a big deal right now, coming from the flop that was Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four and making a huge name for himself as the villainous Erik Killmonger in Ryan Coogler’s movie. Sure to be offered some of the biggest roles in Hollywood after his MCU entry, Jordan will likely have the pick of what to do with his time now. However, with Jordan revealing he is secretly a huge anime geek, some suggest that the 31-year-old take over where Michael Jordan left off and star in his own Space Jam remake.

Taking to Twitter, one Space Jam/Jordan fan suggested that Warner Bros. cancel their plans for Space Jam 2 with LeBron James and instead focus on a remake of the original with Michael B. Jordan in the starring role:
remake space jam but instead of michael jordan it’s michael b. jordan and instead of looney tunes it’s anime

However, some might know the interesting fact that Michael B. Jordan played Michael Jordan’s son in the original Space Jam (keeping up?), which adds even more plausibility to the idea of him starring in a sequel. It is safe to say that the idea then went viral, with fans even creating their own character posters of how it could look:

For those who don’t remember, Joe Pytka’s 1996 movie was a kooky comedy that simply shouldn’t have worked but went on to become a cult classic. Starring basketball legend Michael Jordan as himself, the sports star crossed paths with the good and the great of the Looney Tunes. Starring the likes of Danny DeVito, Wayne Knight, and Bill Murray, Space Jam was also responsible for introducing the character of Lola Bunny. Although the movie received mixed reviews and was heavily criticized by veteran animator Chuck Jones, it grossed an impressive $230 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing basketball film of all-time.
Over the years, there has been much talk of a sequel, and while the days of Michael Jordan reprising his role seem to have passed, who’s to say that we couldn’t usher in a new era with Michael B. Jordan? Justin Lin promises that he is STILL moving forward with Space Jam 2, but who would you rather pay to see act, LeBron James or Michael B. Jordan? Sure, the landscape of movies may have changed a lot since 1996 – and basketball movies aren’t exactly top of everyone’s must-watch list – but in the grand scheme of awful reboots and remakes, this idea doesn’t sound too bad at all.
