When American Idol season 14 premiered on January 7, 2015, the fans were introduced to then-18-year-old Jax from East Brunswick, New Jersey. She auditioned for the judges in New York singing The Beatles’ “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and made it past to the next round. Week after week, Jax kept impressing the judges and the viewers, which led to her finishing up the competition in third place.

After competing on American Idol, Jax released a song titled “La La Land”, which was about her experience on the show. When describing the song, the singer said: “I don’t want people to think I’m not grateful for the experience. I love all of it and it was the platform of a lifetime and it opened up all these doors for me. It gave me the opportunity to be a household name in the country and that’s huge. I can’t walk anywhere now without being recognized. But at the same time, it’s not as glamorous as it looks. People don’t know. There are things I’m sometimes bitter about, about the way things were handled.” After releasing the song, the music video was released later the same day.

Shortly after that, however, things sadly took a turn for the worse as the singer was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Jax discovered this diagnosis when she was out grocery shopping with her parents and found a lump on her throat. She said at the time, “My lymph nodes were swollen, but I thought it was just a sinus infection.” Alas, according to endocrineweb.com, Jax went to a follow-up, where the doctor diagnosed her with Hashimoto’s disease. It wasn’t until a later CAT scan where 18 tumors were discovered on her throat, with 12 of them being cancerous. Luckily, the singer beat cancer and is now living a healthy life.

Despite the fact that she didn’t win American Idol, Jax has still gone on to have a successful career after the show. She still loves to sing, and she makes that apparent through her social media posts. Even though Jax had a minor health scare, she didn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dreams. Now, the fans can find her music on all streaming platforms. Even though she didn’t win American Idol, it looks like Jax has become a star on her own.
