A player of Animal Crossing: New Horizons has shared a hilarious game clip of a dung beetle rolling a snowball onto their character’s head as they stepped back to admire the scenery. With winter in full swing, Nintendo fans have been using snowballs to build Animal Crossing Snowboys, but snowballs can also be pushed around the ground by the rare seasonal bug.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ seasons reflect the time of year in which users are playing, offering an in-game comparison to the weather outside. Winter in the game started for those in the Northern Hemisphere on December 1o, with islands covered in snow and trees decorated with lights in the run-up to ACNH‘s equivalent of Christmas Day, known as Toy Day. With the cold season comes rare bugs and fish not available year-round, as well as snowballs, and new DIY Recipes granted to those who manage to use them to create perfect Snowboys in Animal Crossing.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Redditor AJayySim’s hilarious encounter with an Animal Crossing bug and snowball sees a dung beetle roll a large snowball off a cliff and onto the player’s head. The short clip is perhaps one of the most perfect cases of being at the right place at the right time, and demonstrates what will happen should a user be standing at a cliffside with a busy dung beetle nearby. As expected, the fragile snowball almost immediately falls apart after hitting the player, perhaps proving the strength of the user’s protective construction headgear. At the time of writing, the video has amassed over 15,000 Upvotes from fans of the game.

While the winter season brings lots of festive fun to Animal Crossing, the title’s snowballs are one of the release’s more divisive gameplay inclusions. By rolling snowballs to the correct size, players can build snowmen, but many Animal Crossing players dislike the Snowboys due to the fragility of snowballs, and how hard it can be to get the right proportions for perfect snowmen. Snowballs, which can be kicked and rolled around until the correct size, will fall apart and disappear if they meet something solid, oftentimes happening at the worst possible moment.

AJayySim’s Animal Crossing video isn’t just a funny look at the game, but also serves to show how the title actually works. While dung beetles can sometimes be spotted rolling snowballs, it’s rare for both the bug and snowball to have spawned in an area that would facilitate a cliff-drop as seen in the clip. Even rarer is the likelihood of a player standing directly below the snowball at the time it would fall. Despite being nearly two years old, users are still discovering hilarious or rare encounters in Animal Crossing thanks to its gameplay and characters.
