There are many interesting tools players can use in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to make daily life less frustrating. Island work requires the use of axes to collect wood, fishing rods to snag fish from the ocean, and poles to vault over rivers until bridges can be built to cross them. Animal Crossing also utilizes a wand that can come in many different varieties. However, despite its magical appearance, the wand is a surprisingly underwhelming tool.

Wands allow Animal Crossing players to quickly select between eight pre-made outfits while on the go. The outfits the wand holds can be created by using the wardrobe or dresser in a player’s home. Despite giving the players a magical transformation into one of these preset clothing options, the player isn’t actually wearing the outfit. Much like the swimsuit, Animal Crossing wands allow the player to wear the illusion of the outfit over their clothing. Different pieces of the outfit cannot be removed, nor can the wand remember individual hairstyles.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

There are 21 different types of wands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons which the player can craft once obtaining the DIY recipes, with the exception of the Bug and Fish wands. These two must be earned during seasonal events. While there are many wand recipes to collect via exploring the island and participating in Animal Crossing events, the difference in type does not change the wand’s basic function. Because of this, every wand only offers the player a different aesthetic choice, which can feel frustrating for an item that is supposed to be considered magical.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Wands Should Do More

Because the wands are so limited in what they can do, it would be interesting if Animal Crossing released an update adding new wand functions. Effect wands could be an excellent way to add flare to the magical item, giving each different type of wand an illusion like glitter, confetti or sparks the player could cast on command. Animal Crossing wands could also be used to pull pranks, like a boulder wand that makes fake rocks, or a wand that creates a funny sound effect when used. While these features don’t add any practicality as tools, they would make interaction with friends entertaining, much like Animal Crossing’s reactions feature.

Integrating specialty wands that require a lot of expensive materials to craft would also give wands more value to players. A wand that requires one of every Animal Crossing Zodiac Fragment to complete could be used to change what constellation appears in the sky at night, or a wand made of a special material from each season could be used to control the weather. Animal Crossing: New Horizons could push the boundaries for this magical item, and allow players the chance to truly wield many unique wand options.
