The new Apex Legends character Seer, also known as The Ambush Artist, is currently the game’s most commonly used Legend, according to recent player-sourced data. The new playable character was added as part of last week’s Season 10 update and has already made an impact with Apex Legends players by being a little too powerful.

Apex Legends was a runaway hit for developer Respawn Entertainment from the moment it was released back in early 2019, partially owing to its robust and memorable cast of playable characters known as Legends. Each of these characters has a unique set of abilities and perks, which serves to bolster the game’s replayability and team-oriented gameplay. Respawn is also known to introduce new characters through its seasonal model, with the most recent being Seer, a stylish alien fighter boasting a high-tech arsenal. Among Seer’s abilities are a heartbeat sensor and the power to summon an army of micro-drones that reveal the location of enemy combatants. Seer’s strength’s on the battlefield, distinct appearance, and unique backstory help him fit in nicely with the rest of the popular Apex Legends cast.

Seer also seems to stand out in just the right way, as a recent article from Dexerto reports that the Recon powerhouse has been leading the Apex Legends pick rates over the past week. The statistics come courtesy of the website ApexLegendsStats, which is a player-run site that pulls data from players who link their accounts. The data shows that Seer currently has a pick rate of 18.1%, a rate roughly 4% greater than the runner-up character Octane. It should be noted that these statistics were taken from around six million players, which is a relatively small sample size when compared to the total Apex Legends community.

It will be interesting to see how Seer’s popularity is maintained over the next few weeks and months. Wraith’s popularity dropped significantly when she was nerfed, so Seer’s story could follow a similar trajectory as Respawn continues to balance him. The opposite outcome is conceivable as well, as balancing Seer could turn out to make him more fun to play as. Seer is also a new face in the game, so his high pick rate could be simply attributed to players experimenting with the character at their disposal.

Whatever is causing his massive popularity, one thing is certain: Seer is definitely on the minds of many Apex Legends fans at the moment. The lore associated with the character, his unique skill set, and his striking aesthetic add some much-welcome variety to the game. If he continues to hold the interest of the player base, Seer might just keep his popularity as Apex Legends transitions into next gen consoles.

Apex Legends is currently free-to-play on all major platforms.
