Warning: contains a preview for Robins!

DC Comics has released a final preview for Robins, a finalist in the DC Round Robin fan tournament. After three rounds, the final voting has finally begun. Batman’s wards are fighting Harley Quinn to be fans’ top pick. The Bat Family has shown no signs of slowing down, though they definitely create their own conflicts among one another at times.

The DC Round Robin is a fan-vote tournament to choose a title to be made into an upcoming comic. The winner will receive a six-issue miniseries in Fall 2021. The competition began with sixteen titles and now, Robins is competing against Suicide Squad Seven in the final round. Voting is now open until June 1st and the final set of extra materials to help fans make a decision has been released.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On DC Community, a 10-page preview for Robins has been revealed. Created by the team of Tim Seeley, Baldemar Rivas, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Steve Wands, this potential comic brings together Batman’s former sidekicks. They will be discussing what effect wearing the mantle had on them in a sort of intervention. The preview has revealed a new foe, a combat sequence involving all the Robins, and the previously released single-page preview of the Bat Family at the end. Check it out here:

The preview has revealed a new foe in London, reciting Little Jenny Wren – an English nursery rhyme. Jenny Wren has an explosive introduction and she will most likely be seeking to make the Robins hers – placing the group as her target. Her motivations have yet to be revealed though she is definitely curiosity piquing. She sports a cloak patterned like the down of a bird of prey. Also featured in this preview is a group of Anarky followers whose actions call the Robins to collective action. As usual the group is seeking to cause anarchy and bring down perceived corruption through chaos and violence. A new name pops up here – Mr. Neg – who leads the Anarky supporters, though he doesn’t last past the preview thanks to Red Hood – in another explosive moment. It culminates in the previously released page that shows the Robins gathering together in Dick Grayson’s apartment.

Thus far, there isn’t much revealed as far as the broader plot. Blüdhaven isn’t the most desirable place to be, and one recurring theme through this preview is that no one – not even perceived conspiracy theorists – respects Nightwing at the moment. It has been a while since Dick has been Robin, but his experience as a sidekick seems like it will be held against him for a long time to come. In this regard, he may have an important point to bring up, in terms of how being a ward to Batman provides a means to perpetually live under his shadow – though they prove his teachings to be very helpful when in a tough spot. However, not even his adopted siblings are respecting his efforts to set up this meeting – as Jason and Damian both tried to wiggle out of it.

This comic is likely to tug at all the faults that the Robins find in each other, particularly given how Damian and Tim are butting heads – though it does lead to a comical reference to Tim’s brief stint as simply “Drake” from 2019 to 2020. The Robins have a lot to unpack – and they just may get a chance to – should they beat Harley Quinn’s Suicide Squad Seven and win DC’s Round Robin.
