Netflix just released Cheer season two and fans are asking if there will be a third season. The second season showed how the cast dealt with the pandemic, fan-favorite Jerry Harris’ arrest, and the growing competition from Trinity Valley. There were some major Cheer cast changes this season, and some new faces stole the show as they shared their backstories about what cheering has done for them.  Here is everything to know about Cheer season three.

The debut Cheer season followed several cheerleaders at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. It showed the individual struggles the cheerleaders faced, including the pressure to be perfect each year in order to “make mat.” Fans fell in love with the entire cast, from the demanding head coach, Monica Aldama, to breakout star Jerry Harris. Jerry was later arrested and charged with receiving child pornography. This news shocked his friends and coaches and led to the filming of an entire episode dedicated to his incarceration in season two, as well as his team’s reactions to it.

Another running theme throughout Cheer season two was the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the show, as it meant that some of the season one fan favorites were not returning. La’Darius Marshall is a fan favorite from season one, and he had a dramatic exit from Navarro after publicly mocking Monica. Other members of the team had quieter exits in Cheer season two’s second half. Assistant coach Andy Cosferent left, as did Gabi Butler and Morgan Simianer. As many of the original cast members departed, Cheer started featuring Navarro’s biggest rivals, Trinity Valley. The entire season came to a close in the finale when the two teams were once again head to head at the 2021 NCA Championship in Daytona.

With TVCC just barely beating Navarro, Cheer season three will likely show how Monica and the rest of the team were able to get over that loss. It will also give them something to prove as the two colleges are set to compete again later this year. Though Cheer season three has not been officially confirmed by Netflix, it is still very likely to happen. The series has been in the Top 10 since it premiered and many fans think that season two is better than season one.

If Cheer season three gets the green light, there will once again be some casting changes, since many of the cheerleaders have graduated. Navarro coach Monica and TVCC coach Vontae Johnson are sure to return as they reignite their professional rivalry. Navarro’s Gillian Rupert is also set to return, and she will likely come back with a vengeance as she felt responsible for their loss last year. TVCC star Jada Wooten will sadly not be returning, as she has already graduated, but she is continuing to cheer at another Texas university. Fans will have to wait for an official renewal announcement for Cheer season three. In the meantime, they can go back and binge the first two seasons.
