The rivalry between Navarro College and Trinity Valley Community College reached new heights on Cheer season 2, so viewers are understandably curious to find out how distant these two Texas schools really are to each other. When Netflix launched Cheer season 1 back in 2020, the series was mostly focused on the Navarro College cheerleading team. This included the team’s head coach, Monica Aldama, and star athletes such as Gabi Butler, La’Darius Marshall, Lexi Brumback, Morgan Simianer, and Jerry Harris.

Toward the end of season 1, the show briefly introduced Trinity Valley Community College and showed a glimpse of their routine at the 2019 National Cheerleading Championship. Alas, it was made clear that Trinity Valley was Navarro’s no. 1 rival in cheerleading and that both schools were located near each other in the state of Texas. With the premiere of season 2, Trinity Valley started to get featured just as much as Navarro. Now, Cheer fans want to learn just as much about Trinity Valley as they learned about Navarro in season 1.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

When Cheer described how physically close Navarro and Trinity Valley were to each other, that was no exaggeration. As seen in the screenshot below, only 39.4 miles separate the Navarro College campus and the Trinity Valley Community College campus. This is about a 50-minute drive. The Navarro campus, which is located in Corsicana, Texas, spans 103 acres and features 23 buildings. Meanwhile, the main campus of Trinity Valley is in Athens, Texas and the school has five other satellite campuses. With the mounting pressure between these two schools escalating over the course of Cheer season 2, it’s pretty clear that this rivalry isn’t going away anytime soon.

Navarro College was established in 1946. Interestingly enough, Trinity Valley Community College was also founded in 1946 – so the rivalry between these two schools almost seems like fate. Monica Aldama joined the Navarro cheerleading team as a coach in 2000. Since then, she has coached Navarro to 14 wins in the junior college division of the National Cheerleading Championship. Under Monica, the Navarro cheerleading team has also won five Grand National designations by having the highest overall score in a competition. In stark contrast to Monica’s long history with Navarro, Vontae Johnson is a somewhat new coach to the Trinity Valley cheerleading team.

The main storyline of Cheer season 2 was related to the overall competitiveness between Navarro and Trinity Valley when it comes to cheerleading. These schools always go head to head in the Nationals and keep each other on their toes. Hopefully, Netflix will greenlight many more seasons of Cheer so that fans can keep up with the fascinating world of competitive cheerleading.
