Fans have been waiting a long time for The Last of Us Part 2, and a chance to finally see through the story of Joelle and Ellie. Naughty Dog generally likes to introduce a host of new ideas with each game, and The Last of Us 2 is no different, further emphasizing both stealth and combat.

The Last of Us 2 presents a new world of threats for Ellie to contend with, and this comes with a host of new enemies. There are, of course, new infected, but humans pose just as much of a threat as anything.

The sequel doesn’t introduce a ton of new enemies, but it does use a few that can integrally change the experience. Here’s every new enemy in The Last of Us 2.

WLF (Washington Liberation Front)

The WLF is one of two major factions that players have to face in The Last of Us 2, and they’re more commonly known as the Wolves. The WLF defeated the military forces stationed in Seattle, and because of that they now have access to the military’s entire stockpile of weapons and equipment. The WLF can be dangerous for Ellie to face as they have access to trucks to move troops, lots of guns, and are generally fairly well organized.

Seraphites

The Seraphites, also known as the Scars, is the other major faction at war with the WLF in The Last of Us 2. Fighting the Scars is a wildly different experience from battling the WLF. The ritualistic cult primarily relies on melee weapons and bows, meaning battles with them are going to be very up close and personal. The Scars also like to use scare tactics and ambushes to dismay their enemies.

Guard Dogs

Human enemies are nothing new, even if they are different factions, but Guard Dogs do present a brand new enemy type for players. Dogs always accompany a human ally and they can make player’s lives so much harder, as they’re much better at spotting Ellie. The big problem is that dogs can follow the Ellie’s scent trail, giving them another way to track players down outside of sight. Of course, when the player is sighted dogs can be equally dangerous as they’ll charge straight at Ellie, while their human counterparts attack in their own way.

Shamblers

Shamblers are the one new infected type in The Last of Us 2, and the hulking brutes certainly look intimidating at first glance. They aren’t as hard as bloaters, but if a Shambler gets close it’ll release a cloud of deadly acid. Luckily, the massive infected is pretty slow so it’s pretty easy to get out of close range and take them down with ranged weapons.

The Rat King

While the Shambler is the only new common infected type, there’s actually another utterly terrifying infected in The Last of Us 2. The Rat King lives in the basement of the hospital, and it’s a disgusting mass of infected fused together. Like with other infected, The Rat King is incredibly dangerous at close range, more so than any other infected type. The name Rat King is based on a myth that rats become entangled by their tails being tied together. In German folklore, a Rat King was a superstition that was seen as a bad omen.
