Frontman of Four Seasons, Frankie Valli, has confirmed that the upcoming Jersey Boys film will star Nick Jonas as Frankie. A Jersey boy himself, Jonas grew up in Wyckoff, New Jersey before moving to Los Angeles with his brothers and their band, the Jonas Brothers. Yet, his familiarity with Broadway does not begin with this latest Jersey Boys adaptation as the singer song-writer began working professionally in theater at the age of seven.

As a guest on The Today Show (via Broadway), Frankie Valli spoke about some of the recent developments being made for the adaptation, including the casting of Jonas. Valli also revealed that he spoke to Jonas about the project, which is reported to be shooting in Cleveland. Valli confirmed to The Today Show that “[Jersey Boys] is being filmed for television and Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers is playing Frankie, and I’m really excited about that.”

Jersey Boys, a musical biography about the rise and fall of the band Four Seasons in the 1960s, has a special focus on Valli and his relationships with both his band members and his family. A previous version of the hit Broadway musical was adapted in 2014 by Clint Eastwood, starring John Lloyd Young as Frankie. Deadline first reported in January that Jonas was in talks to star in the project, and little else has been confirmed about what’s in the works for the musical, including additional casting or a production timeline.

Reported as a potential “streamer,” it makes sense for Jersey Boys to go in this direction, given the success of Hamilton on Disney+. Fans of both Jonas and Jersey Boys can also look forward to seeing the musician take on the legendary falsetto that Valli was known for in songs such as “Rag Doll,” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” There’s a limited pool of musicians in Hollywood who fit the description of the little guy with a big voice as well as Jonas does, and fans can look forward to seeing what he will do with the project as more information emerges.
