Warning! SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead season 11 episode 11.

The Walking Dead season 11 has experienced yet another month-long time jump, potentially explaining the timeline for season 11 part 2. Returning from a mid-season hiatus, The Walking Dead season 11 quickly wrapped up its Reaper storyline and has moved on to the Commonwealth. There, the survivors are facing all sorts of new challenges as they experience the closest thing to life before the outbreak that the franchise has ever seen.

When Lance Hornsby came to Alexandria in The Walking Dead season 11 part 2’s premiere and offered the survivors a chance to join the Commonwealth, it was unclear how many would accept the offer. At present, the majority of the show’s remaining characters have relocated to the Commonwealth, with Aaron, Lydia and Maggie choosing to remain behind. Why the others haven’t yet made the move has not been explained, but a flash-forward reveals that Maggie is still at Hilltop six months later.

In The Walking Dead season 11 episode 11, “Rogue Element”, another time jump occurs that brings the story closer to that future shown in the flash-forward. The previous time jump in episode 10 explained that the Alexandrians had been at the Commonwealth for a month. Episode 11 has another skip, but rather than show it with text on the screen, this time jump is merely addressed through quick dialogue. During the episode, Connie is interviewing Mercer and says, through her interpreter Kelly, “It’s been a month since former trooper Tyler Davis has been in the hospital under armed guard.”

As Tyler Davis was only arrested at the end of The Walking Dead season 11, episode 10, the following episode takes place one month later, creating an interesting pattern. Just three episodes into The Walking Dead season 11 part 2, there have already been two time jumps, meaning that the story is advancing at a rate of roughly one month per episode. At this pace, The Walking Dead season 11 will catch up with that six-month flash-forward scene by episode 15, the penultimate episode of the season’s second block.

This would mean the immediate aftermath of that flash-forward scene with Daryl and the Commonwealth soldiers confronting Maggie at Hilltop could play out across season 11, episode 15. Afterward, episode 16 would feature whatever resolution occurs and include setup for The Walking Dead season 11 part 3, the show’s final batch of episodes. Of course, The Walking Dead season 11 may not continue with this one-month-per-episode pace, and instead may reach the six-month mark sooner in its run. However, it seems likely this is how the timeline will shake out moving forward given the pattern set with its two time jumps already.

As for what’s to come in The Walking Dead season 11 part 2’s remaining episodes, that’s harder to predict. A trailer for episode 12 has revealed the show will return to Alexandria and Hilltop to check in with Aaron and Maggie. It also shows Daryl bringing a delegation from the Commonwealth that includes Pamela Milton. This suggests the one-month skips will continue as it takes at least a month to travel from the Commonwealth to Alexandria and Hilltop. Assuming The Walking Dead keeps this pace, there would be two episodes to go before Daryl and Maggie are staring each other down, so whatever becomes the root cause of this conflict is sure to be explored very soon.

The Walking Dead continues Sundays on AMC.
