How to Play Co-Op in Untitled Goose Game

Since its release, Untitled Goose Game has garnered a huge following. It quickly earned over a million copies sold in just three months and spawned an unfathomable amount of goose related memes and video content. Untitled Goose Game impressed the DICE Summit committee enough to award House House the 2019 Game of the Year award.

Now, the game has been further updated with a new two-player mode featuring a new unique goose. The new Co-Op mode does not change any puzzles or add unique tasks. In fact, it will make the game much easier to complete with almost no downsides. Still, despite the deflated challenge it can be huge fun to terrorize the quiet little village with a fellow chaotic goose.

Starting and Playing Co-Op in Untitled Goose Game

The Co-Op mode can be selected from a new save file and is only available via local play. However, certain platforms are able to mimic couch Co-Op via streaming. This includes Share Play on PlayStation 4 and the program Parsec on PC and Mac. On PC, a controller will need to be attached as player one will move via mouse and keyboard. For Switch, each player can use a single Joy-Con. Once started, each goose will have a distinctive peak shape, honk sounds, and color of their beak and feet (yellow and orange).

Staying Together

Co-Op mode has a limited camera range, both players can only move a certain distance from each other before the camera will no longer zoom out or pan. This can mean that there are some times when one goose can get stuck in place due to a passage being out of camera view or blocked by an object. This can be especially troublesome in areas with multiple levels of elevation, like the outdoor bistro. It can be a good idea for both players to remain relatively close and move in a similar direction to avoid being boxed in.

Working as a Team

With two geese in play, many puzzles and objectives can be completed much easier. The human NPCs can only really deal with one player at a time, leaving the other free to cause havoc. One goose can act as a distraction by honking or getting close to a human, while the other swoops in to grab an item. The first one can also then turn into an interceptor to block off any people that figure out that their ally just stole something. This can be best utilized with very important items that are carried like the gardener’s key, the neighbor’s slipper, or the tower bell. This can even be used to drag along items that would be almost impossible (or at least very difficult) to carry during single player.

Additionally, in the few instances where a single goose would need to be stationary, the other player can freely move around. Some examples include getting dressed in the sculpture’s ribbon or being awarded the flower from the bistro patrons.

With a team of geese, all tasks should be much simpler to complete. This makes the update a great time for old players to jump back in and finish anything that they may have left unfinished.
