Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition features heavy rain effects that some say makes the game almost unplayable when occurring, and many people are wondering if the weather can be turned off in any way. The GTA Trilogy is in a bad state right now, plagued with a boatload of bugs and graphical “improvements” that hurt the overall experience more than help. Seeing the final result of the GTA Trilogy greatly diminished the anticipation of players eager to return to improved versions of the older GTA titles or experience the classic games for the first time.

Amidst all of the different issues, the games in the GTA Trilogy feature some truly annoying weather effects that have drawn the ire of players. In the original release of Grand Theft Auto 3, Rockstar included a dynamic weather system to create a more immersive experience riding around Liberty City. This weather system carried over into Vice City and San Andreas in subsequent years, and the weather always added into the atmosphere of each individual game.

With the release of the GTA Trilogy, the “improved” weather effects that Rockstar and Grove Street Games have implemented have done nothing but cause problems for some players. There have been multiple accounts of the heavy rain diminishing the sightline of players across all three games, particularly those playing through Carl Johnson’s tale in San Andreas. The heavy rain combined with the darkened sky gets so bad at some points that it makes it virtually impossible for some to see anything in the game, which isn’t ideal when trying to reign over the criminal underworld.

The Only Way To Disable Heavy Rain In GTA Trilogy Is Through Cheats

The kicker with the unbearable heavy rain in the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy is that there isn’t any official way to turn off the effect in the Options menu. PC modders in the GTA community have taken it upon themselves to try and fix the adverse effects of the rainstorms, but this leaves the substantial console community dealing with the glitched storms for the time being.  It’s a clear oversight by Rockstar and Grove Street Games that makes the experience so much worse, as the games don’t offer an easy way to mitigate the issues caused by the persistent downpour of rain. However, for those players unopposed to using GTA’s patented cheats, each individual title does allow players to change the weather effects completely by entering specific codes. All of the different cheat codes for each individual game and platform are listed below:

For those looking to avoid using cheats while playing the GTA Trilogy, the only solution for dealing with the overwhelming rain effects is to sit and wait things out in-game until the weather goes away. It’s definitely not the ideal scenario fans were hoping for, and it’s absurd that something as inconsequential as a virtual rainstorm can bring such a damper on the GTA Trilogy as a whole. It’s likely that the rain will get patched in the future after Rockstar recently announced updates were coming, but it looks like players will be blinded by the torrential rainstorms in the GTA Trilogy until that day comes.
