Whether playing a Jedi or a Sith, players from either side of the force in Star Wars: The Old Republic will want to upgrade their lightsabers. All orange labeled items, such as lightsabers in the game, can be modified and upgraded up to level 50. This allows for most players to stick with the same couple lightsabers throughout their entire playthrough, as the upgrades will help them keep level with their enemies.

Much like other video games, there is a color-coded system to what types of items are the highest quality. Upgrades in the game are this way. Green is the color code for standard items, blue is above green, purple is above blue, and orange is the highest level. With this in mind, let’s get into how to upgrade lightsabers and which ones are the best.

How to Upgrade Lightsabers in Star Wars: The Old Republic

After purchasing or crafting a mod, players can find a workbench in the Craft and Trade Market in one of the main cities and view their lightsaber within it. All lightsabers should have four modification slots, a mod slot, a hilt slot, an enhancement slot, and a color crystal slot. Depending on the player’s lightsaber, some of these slots may or may not be locked into their current stats.

The modifications can add extra stats to the weapon such as strength, willpower, power, critical rating, surge rating, absorption, accuracy, glance rating, defense, and expertise. A player’s choice in these stats will be dependent on their playstyle in the game. Outside of these things, all of these modifications affect the appearance of the lightsaber as well. The most obvious of these modifications being the color crystal, which affects the color of the saber’s light.

When removing previous modifications to the lightsaber there will be a small fee for each interaction. However, applying new modifications shouldn’t cost players any credits. Outside of modifications being based on the playstyle of the character, some modifications will even require that a certain path be taken throughout the game to be used. These restrictions tend to be based on whether a player is dark or light sided.

When players feel they are ready to get their hands on a lightsaber modification, they should head to any of the main cities’ commendation vendor to buy them. In this case, the modifications will be under the Supplies section. If a player is more interested in crafting their own, they can do this with a schematic. The schematics will only craft blue and purple based modifications.
