The latest trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League confirms the Justice League roster for the game, but one member seems to be missing: Batman. There’s no shortage of DC icons in the game, but arguably the biggest one is absent. Batman is a core staple of the Justice League and to have him missing from the Suicide Squad game would be a pretty surprising omission, but there are some clues both in the trailers and in developer Rocksteady’s past that could give some insight into where the Dark Knight is.

The new Suicide Squad trailer does feature Batman’s imagery throughout. The most prominent example is a car with the Bat-signal strapped to its hood, which may or may not be some sort of Batmobile. Batman’s statue is also seen alongside the statues of other Justice League members at what appears to be the Hall of Justice. His presence is definitely felt, but so far, there hasn’t been one explicit mention of him other than these bat-centric images.

That said, Batman is known for having all kinds of fail-safes in case the Justice League goes rogue. Will the Suicide Squad be utilizing those on their own terms, or will Batman show up to lend a helping hand – or perhaps be evil himself? Since Suicide Squad and Batman: Arkham are connected, there is some key history that may allude to Batman’s whereabouts. If players 100% Batman: Arkham Knight, they get an ending where Batman essentially kills himself. Scarecrow revealed his identity to the world and when he returns to Wayne Manor, the mansion blows up.

Is Batman In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

By the end of Arkham Knight, Bruce Wayne and Batman are presumed dead by the public, but a much more nightmare-ish version of the Caped Crusader is seen protecting a family at the very end of the game. After six years, there are no concrete answers as to what this ending means. Is Batman still alive and using Scarecrow’s fear toxin to terrify criminals? It seems possible. With Suicide Squad being a follow-up to Arkham Knight, it’s entirely possible Rocksteady will finally give a definitive answer.

It’s possible Bruce Wayne faked his death to the public so he could just eliminate the dual persona and fully embrace the idea of Batman with no obligations to being an ordinary citizen of Gotham. If everyone knows Batman is Bruce Wayne, the mystique and fear are lost. Not knowing if he’s superpowered or even human helps Batman create panic in his enemies, but if Batman reinvents himself, he can still operate.

Since Superman is suddenly evil in Suicide Squad, there are a lot of questions. How much time has passed since Arkham Knight? Does the Justice League even know what Batman is doing or do they believe him to be dead as well? Can Batman be plausibly separated from the Justice League when Brainiac corrupts them? If so, that gives him an out and a reason to be an ally to the Suicide Squad in the game. If Superman and The Flash go evil, they could destroy the world. That’s enough reason for a character like Batman to come out of hiding and face them directly.

Even though the primary goal of the Suicide Squad is to kill the Justice League, Batman may be able to help stop them without killing them. His intellect would be a major asset and it would just be fun to see Batman team up with his enemies. Rocksteady likely won’t reveal Batman is in the game before its release and may even actively deny that he’s in it. After all, the studio said Joker wasn’t in Arkham Knight and that the Arkham Knight himself wasn’t Jason Todd or Red Hood. Both of those statements were lies.

Whether Batman is in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League remains to be seen, but it seems likely Rocksteady will bring him back. Batman seemingly faked his death and is out there somewhere while the world is falling apart. It would be hard to justify not pulling him out of the shadows to help save the world once more – unless Rocksteady reveals he is actually dead – which seems unlikely.
