Milla Jovovich says she would always love to return to the Resident Evil franchise. The actress originated the role of Alice, a character created for the movies that adapt the extremely popular video game series. Jovovich starred in all six films, four of which were directed by her husband Paul W.S. Anderson. Anderson acted as a writer and producer on the two films he did not direct.

While Jovovich’s franchise concluded in 2016 with Resident Evil: The Final chapter, it is not the end of the line for the series on the big screen. Several new adaptations are in the works, ones that will adapt the video games more accurately. Much of the criticism leveled against the Jovovich series had to do with the films veering wildly away from the games’ plot. Many fans expressed disappointment that some of their favorite aspects of the video games did not make it to the big screen.

Speaking with ComicBook on the eve of the release of her next video game adaptation, Monster Hunter, Jovovich spoke about the Resident Evil franchise. The actress says that the franchise is close to her heart, not only because she spent so many years in the movies’ universe, but because she has always been a fan of the video games. She says that it’s a universe she would love to revisit if ever given the opportunity.

Resident Evil is such a huge part of my life, on so many different levels. I was such a big fan of the game. That’s what made me want to be in the movie to begin with. So, I would always love to go back to the Resident Evil universe. I think it’s such a fun place to be in, and it’s such a great reality. And, listen, I spent half of my career in that world. I would love to be a part of it again. I know whoever is doing it is going to have an amazing time on it, because it’s a really fun world to be a part of.

While Anderson has expressed that he’s done with the franchise, Jovovich reveals she wouldn’t shut down another opportunity to reprise a role that has defined her career. That might be a little difficult, though. With the new adaptations adapting the video games more directly, there might not be room for Alice’s character, who never appeared in the games. Still, the Resident Evil franchise has proven to play fast and loose with its source material, and nothing is set in stone. A crossover of her character with the games’ world would be the perfect chance to create unique synchronicity between the two.

Jovovich has proven to be a highly bankable star, especially in films like this. The Resident Evil franchise grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, even as the films dipped in quality and prominence. Bringing Jovovich back, even for a cameo, could prove successful and draw in fans of her character Alice who are less familiar with the video games. Only time will tell if Jovovich will make her return, but there are plenty of opportunities. With a new Resident Evil movie in the works and a Netflix series, the possibilities are endless, and, like Alice, the franchise seems to refuse to die.
