A new Indie World Direct has been announced by Nintendo, sparking interest among fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong who are hoping that the game will appear at the show, and that it will finally receive a release date. The reason fans are expecting Silksong to appear is due to a leak that may have revealed its release date, which could happen in early 2022.

Silksong was originally meant to be a paid DLC expansion for Hollow Knight, which would add a new playable character to the game. Silksong stars Hornet, one of the bosses of Hollow Knight, who fights with a needle and thread combo. Hollow Knight went on to receive universal acclaim and became a smash hit, leading to Silksong becoming a full-fledged sequel for the game. Silksong was announced in February 2019, but little information has been revealed about it since, leaving fans hungry for more details.

The official Nintendo of America Twitter page has announced that a new Indie World Direct will take place on December 15 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET, giving fans a chance to catch up with all the latest and upcoming indie games heading to Nintendo Switch. The announcement has led to fans responding to the tweet with Silksong memes and pleas as they hope for the game to appear during the show. Hollow Knight: Silksong has skipped every major gaming event in 2021, including E3 and The Game Awards, and Silksong also missed the last Indie World, but fans are hopeful that things will be different this time around.

There’s reason to believe that Hollow Knight: Silksong will appear during the Indie World Direct. Revealed earlier this year, the GeForce Now leak involved Silksong, sharing the title with a release date of February 2022. This would also match the five-year anniversary of the release of Hollow Knight, as well as the three-year anniversary of Silksong‘s announcement. The GeForce Now leak has been right on a few occasions, but some of its content is questionable, so the release dates should be taken with a grain of salt.

There are some who have questioned why the developers of Hollow Knight: Silksong have been so quiet with updates. As seen across game development, it’s likely that the game was affected by the pandemic, which could have delayed reveals and release plans. Hollow Knight was an extremely polished product at launch and the same will likely be true of Silksong, so the developers might not have wanted fans complaining if they needed to delay the game in order to polish it even more. Hollow Knight fans have been left disappointed by Nintendo events in the past, so they should be prepared for the game to be absent again. If Silksong does appear, then it will easily be the biggest announcement of the Indie World Direct and could be the perfect way to end a great year for Nintendo games.

The next Nintendo Indie World Direct will be held on December 15, 2021.
