HBO Max releases the Peacemaker episode 5 outtakes show John Cena’s improvised rant as his titular character to teammate John Economos. The streaming title marks the first small-screen installment in the DC Extended Universe, acting as a sequel and spin-off to The Suicide Squad centered on Cena’s Peacemaker following the events of the standalone sequel. James Gunn, who wrote and directed the film, created and wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker season 1 and directed five of the episodes, with Jody Hill, Rosemary Rodriguez and Brad Anderson helming the other three.

Peacemaker follows Christopher Smith as he has recovered from Bloodsport’s shot to his neck and is re-enlisted by Amanda Waller to join Project Butterfly, a black ops squad tasked with hunting down parasitic alien butterfly-like creatures residing in human hosts around the globe. Cena returns to lead the cast of the series alongside The Suicide Squad co-stars Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee as well as DCEU newcomers Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Robert Patrick, Lochlyn Munro and Annie Chang. Peacemaker has proven to be a hit for HBO Max, outdoing The Book of Boba Fett in popularity and becoming the best-reviewed outing in the DCEU.

Following the episode’s premiere on the streaming platform, HBO Max has unveiled the Peacemaker episode 5 outtakes. The video, which was attached to the post-credits of the episode, shows Cena’s improvised rant listing names of potential other people Economos could’ve framed in place of his father in episode 2 of the show. Since its premiere earlier this month, Peacemaker has received acclaim for its unique brand of humor and for Cena’s central performance and his episode 5 rant proved to be one of the new popular moments to stem from the show. Agee recently revealed that Cena’s rant was completely improvised, with Gunn’s original script citing Ariana Grande and one other celebrity as names for the actor to list out, though he would encourage Cena to just keep listing names. The Peacemaker episode 5 outtakes show the hilarity of Cena’s improv skills, listing everyone from fictional characters Bert and Ernie to dead celebrities such as Jim Morrison and George Carlin, as well as series creator Gunn himself and co-star Freddie Stroma.

In addition to the names listed, one of the funnier aspects of the Peacemaker episode 5 outtakes is to see the reactions of Cena’s co-stars, namely that of Stroma, who can be seen breaking character and laughing multiple times in the video. During a recent Twitter watch party for the show, Gunn revealed that he’s kept more of Cena’s improvisation in the show than any other actor he’s worked with, making his rant one of the funnier inclusions to come thus far. Only time will tell what gut-busting improvisations Cena has in store next when Peacemaker returns for episode 6 next Thursday.
