The rising Twitch horror sensation, Phasmophobia, is seeing its fair share of cheats and hacks as of late. It’s not uncommon for these to arise alongside a popular game. This article will go over all current known hacks so users can be on the lookout for those who are altering the game outside of how it was designed to be played.

In Phasmophobia, players take on the role of paranormal investigators to try and figure out what type of entity is haunting a specific map. The game can be enjoyed as a single-player experience, but it is especially fun and easier to hunt ghosts with others. However, Phasmophobia players are starting to notice certain cheats being used during multiplayer, and the community has mixed feelings about these. Many sources even provide step-by-step instructions on how to implement these cheats.

Some players actually welcome particular hacks in Phasmophobia, like the player cap removal when looking to get more people in a lobby. Others just want to enjoy the game as it’s meant to be enjoyed. Some of these Phasmophobia cheats aren’t necessarily detrimental to the overall experience, as long as everyone else is aware and in agreement. As the game is a cooperative effort, most of the Phasmophobia hacks available can be advantageous to the team, rather than give someone an unfair advantage like many Among Us cheats and hacks do. If anything, a majority of these just make the game less challenging, while others are downright annoying. Here’s what hacks are being noticed by players.

Phasmophobia Cheat: Infinite Money & XP

This is a PC-specific cheat in Phasmophobia. Players can increase money and experience by editing Windows Registry files. Through the same method, however, players can negate this hack. This one is harder to spot, but if someone is using better equipment right off the bat, it’s a good indicator they’re using it. That said, this cheat does little to influence the overall outcome of the game, as many players have little difficulty completing goals with minimal money and experience.

Phasmophobia Hack: Player Cap Removal

This Phasmophobia cheat is easy to spot, as a lobby should have a maximum of four players, so more than that indicates a modification. Some users have been requesting more players in a game, especially for larger maps like Asylum. As long as everyone consents to having more players, there isn’t too much of an issue with this hack. Still, others find having too many people undesirable.

Phasmophobia Cheat: Summoning

Twitter user ChoiCer and others are capturing how some hackers are summoning multiple items like flashlights or dolls, which seems more pointless than anything. Too much of this can really convolute a game of Phasmophobia though, and some summoning cheats allow more spirits to spawn. Having more entities in a map could be a fun idea if regulated properly.

Phasmophobia Hack: Jump Scares

By far the most annoying Phasmophobia hack is the lobby jump scares that have been terrorizing a lot of streams lately. Spirits shouldn’t be able to interact with players in safe areas, but this cheat can trigger them to appear whenever, or even play terrifying sounds at the hacker’s will. A majority of the community is asking for a fix to this, as the game is already plenty scary without random jump scares. Additionally, it can sometimes crash the game or even kill a player.

Phasmophobia Cheat: Character Modding

As Kanna Crossing points out, being able to mod characters could potentially show an unwanted NSFW model that could be detrimental to game, especially for streamers who aren’t trying to air that kind of content. At least this is a very easy hack to spot.

Some people have mentioned a flashlight cheat for PC that frees up the player’s hands by pressing “T” on the keyboard, but this an intentional feature of Phasmophobia. Kinetic Games is aware of these issues and is advising players to refrain from modded lobbies until the problems can be resolved. As the game just came out in Early Access mid-September 2020, it’s unclear when an update patch will release. This early developmental stage also allows for easy hacking, and some less prominent hacks like making objects float or speeding do exist, but not to the extent as what is listed above. As some of these cheats are desirable by a good portion of the community, perhaps the developers can regulate some of them to make everyone happy. In the meantime, those who fancy these hacks should stick to playing solo or with friends who are fine with it, so other player experiences aren’t disrupted.
