Manaphy is one of a few Pokémon that can only be obtained legitimately when it is offered as a Mystery Gift or through the use of multiple games and systems. This makes Manaphy one of the hardest Pokémon to obtain, but it also makes it an incredibly tough Pokémon to Shiny hunt. This guide will walk players through the process of setting up to Shiny hunt the Mythical Manaphy.

Many Pokémon titles tend to lock a handful of creatures Shiny locked, which means players won’t be able to get their hands on one. In addition, many special event encounters Pokémon, such as starters, tend to be locked out. However, some titles such as Pokémon Ranger and Pokémon Diamond/Pearl or Platinum are exceptions. Getting a shiny version of Manaphy is slightly complicated as it often requires multiple copies of these titles and trading an egg.

The Seafaring Mythical Pokémon Manaphy was introduced in Gen 4 of Pokémon but wasn’t made available in Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl until after the release of Pokémon Ranger. Since then, Pokémon has yet to make Manaphy obtainable in the main-line games outside of Mystery Gifts. This makes Manaphy not only one of the hardest Pokémon to obtain legitimately, but also one of the most prized Shiny Pokémon.

How To Shiny Hunt Manaphy In Pokémon

In order to hunt Shiny Manaphy, players will need to make sure they have two Nintendo DS systems and two copies of Pokémon: Diamond/Pearl or Platinum. Players will also need various copies of Pokémon Ranger for the DS that have not had the Manaphy Egg taken from them as each copy of Pokémon Ranger can only produce one egg regardless of whether the player starts a new save file. Since this is the case, players will need to accumulate a large number of fresh copies of Pokémon Ranger.

In order to transfer the Manaphy egg to a Gen 4 Pokémon game, hunters will need to have beaten Pokémon Ranger. Once the game is beaten a player will be rewarded with the Manaphy egg which can be transferred to Pokémon: Diamond/Pearl or Platinum. Players will need to beat every copy of Pokémon Ranger they want to transfer an egg from. However, these eggs cannot hatch a Shiny Manaphy until they are traded to another Gen 4 game which is why the hunter needs two systems and two copies of a Gen 4 Pokémon game. Once a player receives a Manaphy egg, they will need to trade it for their second copy and then hatch it.

Once all the eggs are hatched, if none of them contained a Shiny Manaphy the player will want to reset their instead of saving. This will revert all of the hatched Manaphy back into eggs which they can then trade again. They will need to wipe the save data on their first copy of Pokémon: Diamond/Pearl or Platinum and then progress to the point where they are able to trade. This also resets the player’s trainer ID which determines whether the egg will contain a Shiny Manaphy. Then the player can trade all of the unhatched eggs back over to their first copy which has a new save file and repeat the process. This allows for players to hunt for a Shiny Manaphy even if they only have a single unbeaten copy of Pokémon Ranger. It is also important to note that a Manaphy will not appear Shiny on the hatch screen. Players will have to manually check each Manaphy’s summary to see if it is Shiny.

Players wondering if they can catch a Shiny Manaphy in Pokémon Legends: Arceus should know that the Pokémon is Shiny locked like the rest of the Pokémon titles. This means no matter how many times players hatch a Manaphy Mystery Gift Egg; they will not be able to obtain a Shiny Manaphy. Having said that, players can catch a Phione & Manaphy in Pokémon Legends: Arceus once they have cleared the main story.
