Resident Evil Village is full of gruesome deaths, from the opening scene of Mia being gunned down to the hordes of villagers torn apart by Lycan creatures. owever, perhaps the most shocking death comes late in the story as Ethan himself is murdered, his heart ripped out before his eyes. Despite missing that most vital of organs, Ethan is later revived, carrying on to finally defeat Resident Evil Village’s Miranda and save his daughter.

By this point, Ethan has already made countless displays of his regenerative powers. In Resident Evil 7, a possessed Mia cuts off his hand only for it to be reattached without much comment later in the story. He recovers from all kinds of damage simply by pouring First Aid Med on his hand and arm.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

At the beginning of Village, a portion of his left hand is bitten off by a Lycan, and later, his whole right hand is sliced off by Lady Dimetrescu. While his bitten fingers aren’t reattached, Ethan remains fully capable of using his left hand to perform necessary functions, and he’s able to reattach his entire right hand without receiving any kind of proper medical attention.

How Ethan Stays Alive In Resident Evil Village

Some may initially write off Ethan’s inhuman ability to heal and revive as video game magic, but the unforgettable plot twist confirms that Resident Evil Village’s Ethan Winters has already died. Ethan has a vision of Eveline in which she reveals his murder at the hands of Jack Baker in Resident Evil 7. Ethan was then infected by her mold, which gave him the same regenerative powers as Mia, the Baker family, and Eveline herself. The mold is derived from a fungus root called Megamycete, which Ethan destroys at the end of Village in order to save Rosemary, dying again in the process.

What remains to be seen is the long-term effects of the mold, and if Ethan Winters is permanently dead. If Resident Evil Village’s epilogue is correct, as revealed by modders who unlocked its camera to get a look at the mysterious figure who waits for Rose at its end, Ethan has been revived again by the time Rose is a teenager. This could – despite how many times he’s already died – allow him to appear in a future sequel.
