Salma Hayek recalls her “mortifying” experience filming a scene for Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, where she is in a mud bath with fellow co-star Lady Gaga. Hayek is starring in the movie as Giuseppina “Pina” Auriemma, a friend of Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). Hayek can also be seen in the recently released Marvel Studios film Eternals, where she portrayed the character Ajak.

The upcoming movie is based off of the novel The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. It follows the true events of the murder of Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver) in 1995 by the hands of a hitman, hired by his wife Patrizia Reggiani. The upcoming movie is Scott’s second film to be released this year, with The Last Duel coming out in theaters a month and a half prior. House of Gucci also stars Jared Leto, Al Pacino, and Jeremy Irons.

Now, Hayek has discussed a scene from House of Gucci. On The Late Late Show with James Corden, she discusses what it was like filming the scene. She touches on how awkward she was in the situation, while also comparing her approach to Gaga’s, calling her “an Egyptian queen” when entering the bath. Check out her quote below:

“I’ve never done a mud bath – which, by the way, she couldn’t believe it, that I had never done a mud bath – we have a little bit of dialogue before we go in. And once you’re in, you’re naked – well not completely, we had something underneath but nothing on top – and the thing is that, in my head, I was going to sink. Me, with my extra kilos, I sit on the mud and I’m not sinking. And I’m trying to [move the mud away from] my huge butt to make some weight [shift]. And then it starts moving me around and then there’s the boobs going [back and forth], you know. It’s a very dramatic scene and she’s trying to stay focused and… I’m mortified. It was horrific. Most challenging scene I’ve ever done.”

Hayek’s quote is undoubtedly funny, but it also shows how talented and professional Lady Gaga and Hayek are. Both actresses have received critical acclaim for some of their previous performances. Hayek was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Frida Kahlo in the 2002 film Frida, and has been nominated for other movies since. Gaga was recently nominated for her performance in 2018’s A Star is Born, and won an Oscar for the song “Shallow.” Gaga has been a tour de force since then, and has been garnering awards buzz.

The cast and creative team behind House of Gucci are definitely propelling the conversation for the movie. With its November release imminent, it is clear that the movie is going for awards. House of Gucci has been receiving positive reactions so far, giving many high hopes for the movie. Much of the marketing has been around the cast, which makes sense given how stacked it is. Audiences can check out Hayek’s “mortifying” scene with Gaga when House of Gucci releases in theaters.
