The upcoming  Loki Disney Plus (Disney+) TV show will span six episodes, according to star Tom Hiddleston. Matching what Elizabeth Olsen has previously revealed about her show, WandaVision, as well as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it appears as though most of the Marvel mini-series coming to the streaming platform will share the same episode length. Rumblings about a spin-off starring Loki first surfaced in September of last year. Since then, Avengers: Endgame included a pivotal moment that would allow the Trickster God to make future appearances in spite of his death at the hands of Thanos in Infinity War.

During one of Endgame’s several jumps back in time, the Loki seen in the first Avengers movie managed to escape with the Tesseract. As confirmed by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, the version of Loki from Avengers: Endgame is what audiences we’ll be seeing when the show premieres in Spring 2021. The story is set to revolve around Thor’s mischievous brother as he appears throughout human history and influences events.

As part of a wide-ranging interview with MTV News, which briefly discussed Hiddleston’s role in the play Betrayal, the actor confirmed that Loki will run for six episodes. Though he’s played Loki for nine years, across several movies, sometimes as an uneasy ally, other times as an outright foe, Hiddleston expressed amazement at the fact that this would be the first time he will be able to explore the complex character at a more deliberate pace. Hiddleston also said that his roles on stage and in big screen projects are not necessarily separate and apart, explaining that Feige first saw him perform in the theater before even considering him for any role.

In the same interview, Hiddleston shed a bit of light on how that the series would present audiences with a Loki that would have to react to a new set of challenges, as well as formidable opponents that the character has never faced before. Given the premise that guides the six episodes involves Loki jumping through different moments in history, it opens up a world of possibilities regarding villains that have never been featured before in any Marvel movie.

However, the mini-series won’t just be a tale of redemption, comprised of epic battles. Given that Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron will be showrunner, and given the first image of the Loki show includes a winking cultural reference, it could very well end up being the most versatile show to come out of Disney+ in its early run. The Trickster God himself is constantly changing, never in one lane for very long, so it would be quite fitting.
