Tyrese Gibson, who has appeared in six Fast & Furious franchise installments, is set to star in the upcoming action thriller film Hard Matter from rising writer and director Justin Price. Gibson joins an impressive cast that includes Academy Award-nominated actor Harvey Keitel. Action star Frank Grillo, who is known for his villainous turn as Brock Rumlow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also part of the film. Both were cast earlier this year. Hard Matter is currently shooting in Mississippi.

According to THR, Gibson released a statement about joining Hard Matter, saying “This is my second production with Wonderfilm and I love their talent for storytelling. Bret [Saxon] and Jeff [Bowler] are great collaborators.” Wonderfilm’s Saxon and Bowler added that “Tyrese coming on board Hard Matter has been amazing. He’s brought an elevated energy to set, and we are thrilled each day as this production progresses.” It’s unclear who Gibson will be playing in the film as of now, as no character details were provided.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Hard Matter is set in a new America divided by various quadrants, in which a power-hungry corporation has taken over the prison system and replaced it with deadly watches. Now, criminals are the new law enforcement and carry out all forms of capital punishment in order to regain their place in society. Gibson previously collaborated with Wonderfilm Media on the action thriller The Inside Game, in which he starred. In addition to his role as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious movies, Gibson has appeared in popular action films such as Transformers, Death Race, and Four Brothers. Notably, Gibson will next be seen in the highly anticipated Sony and Marvel film Morbius, alongside Jared Leto. He plays Simon Stroud, an FBI agent hunting Leto’s character. That movie is set to release on April 1st.
