Spoilers for The Flash #768 below!

In The Flash #768, Wally West, in a crazy twist, is transformed into the Flash of the future. This all occurs as Wally is hurtled from speedster to speedster, sent for an unknown reason by the Speed Force. Wally could’ve taken on the mantle of the Flash, as offered by Barry Allen in Infinite Frontier #0, but he didn’t as he decided to retire from being a superhero. Laying down his speedster powers, provided by the Speed Force. Wally is finally ready to move on, to live life as a regular non-powered person, in an attempt for some normalcy.

However, things go south as Barry tries to strip Wally of his Speed Force powers. He unexplainable vanishes as he’s overtaken by a force of energy, only to wake up in a very different time period – that being, the “Jurassic Park period,” as Wally jokingly states. Stuck in the past, Wally must survive the torment of a Speed Force-infused velociraptor. With the help of Barry, communicating through Mr. Terrific’s tech, Wally avoids the predator but finds himself in another time period, the future!

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In The Flash #768 by Jeremy Adams, Brandon Peterson, Marco Santucci, David Lafuente, Mike Atiyeh, Arif Prianto, and Luis Guerrero, Wally finds himself stuck in another speedster’s body after a second freak occurrence. However, this time it’s a body that he knows. Wally looks at himself in a reflection, only to realize that he’s in none other than Bart Allen aka Impulse’s body. Stuck in the far future, surrounded by an unfamiliar futuristic landscape, Wally is just as lost as he was in the Jurassic period. The journey that Wally is being sent on is a very exciting and inventive way to incorporate many different speedsters and their respective eras, just through another lens.

Wally’s latest time jump is quite a relief for both Wally and Barry as they know exactly where he is and who he has taken over. Since he’s in the future, it’s clear that they could find a time travel device to get Wally home. On the issue’s final page, the perfect hero shows up in the form of DC’s newest hero Gold Beetle, she’s a time traveler. So, it looks like Wally will have the means to return, but it’s likely the Speed Force will catapult him elsewhere beforehand.

DC has confirmed that this isn’t just a freak occurrence, Wally is being sent on a quest by the Speed Force, but for what reason, he is yet to find out. Barry will be tagging along inside Wally’s mind for a while longer, as he desperately tries to get his friend back. Evidently, Barry, as seen with his conflict with Oliver Queen, is terrified of losing Wally again. Barry will do anything to get him back. Ultimately, it’s extremely refreshing to see Wally West doing something different, rather than constantly suffering. This journey will lead him on an emotionally winding journey, however, it seems that he will come out as a reinvigorated version of the speedster we know. The Flash #768 is in comic book shops and on digital platforms now.
