Known for its witty comedy Will & Grace gave audiences characters full of excellent one-liners and deadpan delivery. While Will Truman (Eric McCormack) identified as gay, he made for a great comedic straight man for the show’s wilder characters to play off of. Even when he got the chance to comedically shine, there was an effortlessness and sophistication to his humor, undercut by the perfect amount of sass.

Even when Will got a bit more childish, he still was able to deliver some devastating one-liners. From cracking jokes about his friends to sharing an observation on a situation, Will always knew the perfect moment to be funny.

When He Proved The Difference Between Him And Karen

“Karen, I Am A Lawyer, Which Means, Unlike You, I Actually Passed A Bar.”

There were some Will & Grace jokes that aged poorly, but there were also many jokes made that did well to be comical even if they grazed over an issue. For instance, Will’s line here was the perfect blend of a funny dig at Karen, whilst still making sure to not condone her excessive drinking.

Never one to be humble, this quote also showed how Will could bring up his esteemed job whilst taking a dig at someone else. Even when defending himself, Will was always witty and sharp with his words, and this pun proved it perfectly.

When He Made A Point On Politics

“This Is Not Weird, Grace, Gay Republicans Are Weird! This Is Sick”

The two-part episode “Big Brother Is Coming,” centered around Will’s estranged brother, Sam, visiting him in New York, much to his chagrin. The situation only got worse when Grace slept with Sam, which led to Will shouting this line after Grace tried to defend herself.

Will’s ability to combine commentary on politics into an insult at Grace is both funny and sharp and was a tactic he employed often. His character was at his best when he was making quick remarks like these, and this line was one of the best.

When He Was Nearly A Good Friend

“Jack, We’re Gonna Slap Such A Lawsuit On Her She Won’t Know What Hit Her… Or I Could Just Pants You In Public. I’m Gonna Go With That.”

Whilst the two were great friends, a lot of Will and Jack’s friendship was based on the fact that Will looked after him like a parent would, and helped him out greatly with any legal matter. Hence, whenever Will leaned into the more childish side of his character, it was all the more fun to watch.

After he and tried to help in Jack trademark a gym workout to no avail in “Stakin’ Care of Business,” Will said this hilarious line, and promptly ran away after he pulled Jack’s pants down. Seeing Will act so immaturely was always a highlight for fans, and this quote was a great reminder that Will could sometimes be silly, with great comedic results.

When He Recognized A Monumental Moment

“One Giant Leap For Man-On-Man Kind.”

The episode “Acting Out,” focused on Will, Grace, and Jack as they eagerly awaited to watch two gay men kiss on prime time television – something that would have been a first at the time. Whilst it turned out the kiss was only implied, Will stated this now-iconic line in response to it.

The line was a clever take on Neil Armstrong’s infamous quote about the moon landing and was a highly funny play on words on Will’s part. Will’s equation to watching two men kiss on television to the moon landing was equal parts funny, and also important in his recognition of the representation, making it a great quote.

When He Had A Clever Comeback

” You Should Know Better. In This House, A Queen Beats A Straight Every time.”

Will’s ability to take a phrase and turn it into a pun meant that he was constantly coming out with hilarious one-liners, just like this quote. In “Poker? I Don’t Even Like Her,” Grace was insistent on joining in on Will’s poker night with his friends, but resorted to cheating to stay in the game.

After he beat Grace, Will said this witty line and put her in her place for the time being. Not only is it a triumphant observation of the game they were playing, but it was also funny in the way that Will self-proclaimed himself a “Queen,” and that was the reason he’d always win over Grace’s “straight.”

When He Used The Ryan Scale

“He’s A Reynolds Dot Gosling.”

The first episode of Will & Grace‘s reboot, “Eleven Years Later,” was filled with many memorable lines and quotable jokes. When Will and Jack arrived at the supposed White House, the pair discussed how attractive a man was using a particularly niche scale, as demonstrated by Will’s quote.

Will’s description was a giddy one and showed that he still had a playful side to him, even when surrounded by politicians he didn’t particularly like. Plus, the scale they used was highly comical and relatable and showed how Will (and Jack) were still trying to keep up with all the current trends, even after 11 years.

When He Told Grace The Truth

“Because I Love You. I Had To Do It With Someone I Didn’t Love. And I Love You. I Couldn’t Do That To You.”

Season 3 was the best in Will & Grace‘s run, with many standout episodes and memorable events. The episode “Lows in the Mid-Eighties,” was a highlight, as the narrative involved a flashback to Will and Grace’s relationship before Will had told her he was gay.

However, in the recounting of events, it was revealed that Will had slept with a woman after he and Grace and broken up, and Grace was upset that it wasn’t her. Whilst Grace may have been slightly selfish about the situation, Will knew how to calm her down and said this heartfelt line to her. Devoid of any of his usual sarcasm, the quote is a great one for the way it showcased the love the two shared for each other.

When He Made A Dig At Karen

“You Don’t Take Relationship Advice From Karen. You Get Advice On, I Don’t Know, What Wine Goes With Mood Stabilizers.”

Throughout Will & Grace, Karen’s blase attitude towards her reliance on alcohol and such was a running gag, and whilst it may be outdated now, at least some of the jokes made about it were funny. For instance, Will always had a quip to make about her, like this line that perfectly summed up why Karen would not be the person you’d go to for advice.

Even though she was usually drunk, Karen was also a notoriously apathetic and rash person, who didn’t have the healthiest relationships herself. Therefore, Will’s observation in this line wasn’t just a comical jab at her, but also an entirely right conclusion to come to.

When He Created A Diversion

“Oh, I’m Certified, All Right. In Fact, I Could Kiss Any Male Counselor In This Camp And Not Feel A Thing.”

“Grandpa Jack,” was a hard-hitting episode to watch, as it followed Jack as he learned that he had a grandson and that said grandson was being forced to go to a conversion camp, as Elliot and his wife feared he might be gay. Whilst the episode covered a tough topic, there were still moments of relief, particularly on Will’s part.

To create a diversion so that Jack could speak to his grandson in private, Will posed as a counselor at a rival camp and stated this quote. His proposal for a “kiss-off” with Reggie (played by Andrew Rannells), who had a hard time keeping it together around him in the first place, was not only a much needed comedic reprieve from the tough narrative but also showed what a great friend Will was to Jack in the lengths he went to.

When He Had Grace’s Life In Order For Her

“Well, Your Business Will Go Under. Your Things Are My Things, So I’ll Just Take Them Back. And I Always Figured I’d Have You Stuffed, And Keep You By The Front Door To Prop Up Umbrellas.”

Will and Grace were one of the best sitcom friendships, despite the ups and downs they faced, they were always there for each other. Throughout the 11 season run, Will and Grace constantly proved to understand each other on a level that no one else could, and Will’s line here was a great example of this.

After Grace had a freak-out in the typical fashion of her character, Will said this comical line, simultaneously using sarcasm to shed some humor on the situation and to make Grace aware she was being ridiculous. Without missing a beat, Will’s words were a funny insight to just how close he and Grace were, whilst also calming her down in a mocking way that he knew she would relate to.
